I feel that it is important to find a space on our website to introduce the producers and suppliers that we work with in Indonesia. I hope that this will give you some insight into the origins of our products. I will start with a family that I have built quite a personal relationship with over the last 4 years.

Ibu Agung Rai and her husband run a family business in Bali. They produce many of the arts and crafts that we import including most of the Buddha and Abstract carvings.

Their family are considered to be of high social standing in the local community and with this comes a responsibility to care for the local people.

In response, Ibu Agung Rai and her family have grown their business and involve many of the local population as well as the surrounding villages.

Of particular benefit is a scheme that we have been supporting for years. Ibu employs a large number of women of all ages from the community in the polishing and finishing of her products.

These women have many pressures in their personal lives, running households and looking after their own families so Ibu allows them to work flexible hours as suits their needs.

She pays them well and provides a clean and happy working environment as well as ensuring that they have access to all that they need to care for their children.
In many of our visits to Sri Super Yogi we have been greeted by dozens of smiling faces and excited talk, it is always a pleasure watching the women chat amongst themselves as they work and the benefit in their lives (and therefore the community as a whole) is very apparent.

The quality of their work is excellent, they always spend more time sanding or put one more coat of wax on than any other supplier I work with. In fact the quality is so good that we often purchase unpolished crafts from other suppliers and give them to the women of Sri to finish for us.

On a personal level the family are truly some of the most warm and friendly people I have ever met. I always take the time to visit them at their house, outside of the working environment and they will always invite me in for an evening meal where we discuss everything apart from work.

During our January trip Dan and I were lucky enough to wander past their house and call in during an important religious ceremony ensuring success and happiness for the coming year.

We were immediately dressed up in traditional Balinese outfits (as you must on these occasions!) and ushered into their family shrine to observe and be present in the ritual. It was a very humbling experience and we both felt honoured to be allowed to be a part of such a personal event.

It is relationships such as these that make us so passionate about our business and the products that we are importing. I know that we will be working with Ibu Agung Rai for a very long time to come.

Kind regards, Chris Bromwich
